One man’s treasure is a dance company’s fundraiser. Long-supporters of Houston’s art scene [you may know them from projects such as the smallest visitor center at the Beer Can House], Balfour Beatty construction is donating their beloved “New Tools for Old School” art car to Houston Metropolitan Dance Center for the most noble of sacrifices: a charity auction. A seven year veteran of the largest Art Car parade in Houston, the eco-friendly 1958 Edsel pacer outfitted with caterpillar tread, front end loader and back hoe is ready for its next life as an arts benefactor. The car took its last ride with Patrick Stanley Project Executive at Balfour Beatty and Houston Met Dance Board Member in the 26th Annual Art Car Parade and has been donated to Houston Metropolitan Dance Center to be auctioned off on Ebay. The proceeds of the auction will be used for the high tech, sound-absorbing roof in Houston Met’s new home at 2808 Caroline Street at Dennis Street.

The auction kicks off on June 1 coinciding with the Center’s grand opening weekend festivities. The auction will take place on Ebay as a part of their PayPal Giving fund partnership, where non-profits can benefit from the auction of items. The auction can be accessed at http://myworld.ebay.com/houstonmetdance June 1 – 7 ONLY. Warm up those fingers! And click, click, click for a cause … it’s not like there’s another one like this one.
