Amy and the Orphans at Ground Floor Theater
Ground Floor Theater presents Lindsey Ferrentino’s Amy and the Orphans, directed by Maryanna Tollemache, Aug. 14-30. Centered around a woman with Down Syndrome and her siblings, “the play offers a nuanced exploration of identity, family bonds, and the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, all while balancing humor with poignant emotional moments.”

For 28 years Cooper and her zany cast have dazzled Houston audiences with their antics, fabulous dancing, singing and the ability to chase the summer blues away.

Fat Ham at Stage West Theatre
Stage West Theatre in Fort Worth and Dallas Theater Center are coming together to bring the 2022 Pulitzer prize-winning play Fat Ham by James Ijames. Stages West presents the regional premiere of Fat Ham Aug. 28-Sept. 14 at the Stage West’s Evie Theatre this summer. The show will then transfer with the same cast and create team to Dallas Theater Center and run at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, Jan. 30 -Feb. 8, 2026.
The Heart Sellers at Amphibian Stage
Fort Worth’s Amphibian Stage presents Lloyd Suh’s The Heart Sellers, July 30-Aug. 17 on the Main stage. The Heart Sellers has been called “a timely, thoughtful meditation on friendship, womanhood and what immigration takes away from a person.” One of the top 10 produced plays in the US in 2024, “The Heart Sellers beautifully captures the highs and lows of new beginnings.”
Everybody’s Talking about Jamie at Uptown Players
Uptown Players presents Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, July 18-Aug. 3 at Kalita Humphreys Theater in Dallas. The play, inspired by true events, “celebrates acceptance, belonging, and a mother’s unconditional love through the inspiring story of Jamie New, a 16-year-old from Sheffield who dreams of becoming a drag queen.”

The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts presents Ozark Mountain Daredevils with Pure Prairie League on Aug. 24, 2025 H-E-B Performance Hall. The Missouri-based band, renowned for their fusion of country, rock, and folk, sound that conjures the spirit of the Ozarks team up with the legendary American country rock band Pure Prairie League for one night of unforgettable hits.
Hairspray at San Pedro Playhouse
San Pedro Playhouse presents the smash musical Hairspray, a dance-filled whirl of family fun based on the iconic John Waters film, directed by Deonté L. Warren, July 18-Aug. 17. “We’re thrilled to welcome Deonté from Texas State University to San Pedro Playhouse, along with several talented students joining us for this production,” says Rick Sanchez, San Pedro Playhouse’s VP of Artistic Programming. “It’s exciting to see how collaboration across Texas can bring such rich artistic energy to our stage.
