Lone Star Lyric culminates their 20th anniversary season with a concert version of Follies on July 28 at Doc’s Jazz Club. “In the haunting elegance of a once-grand theater, a legendary impresario reunites the luminous stars of his past: showgirls, romantics, dreamers, and lost loves gathered for one last celebration,” explains Kelli Estes, Lone Star Lyric founder and Artistic Director. “As the evening unfolds, so do the melodies, memories, and long-buried truths of lives lived in—and beyond—the spotlight.”

The Catastrophic Theatre

Catastrophic theater presents Tamarie’s Greatest Hits Volume 3, by Tamarie Cooper and Patrick Reynolds, through Aug.1 at the MATCH. The show celebrates 30 years of Cooper’s annual irreverent shenanigans, which have gathered a cult following and make it the must-see summer show in Houston.

NobleMotion Dance

NobleMotion Dance with Badie Khaleghian, and Kari Francis collaborate to create Chant, Aug. 14-22 at the MATCH. Noblemotion co-director Andy Noble describes Chant as “an evening-length performance that explores the evolution of collective singing rituals. Set 500 years in the future, the work envisions a society looking back at human history to rediscover the power of communal sound.”

Uptown Players

Uptown Players presents the Tony Award-winning show Urinetown the Musical, July 10-19 at Kalita Humphreys Theater, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann, book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, directed by Penny Ayn Maas, music direction by Vonda K. Bowling and choreography by Gabriela Ayala Yarbrough. Expect a timely satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, and corporate mismanagement.

Broadway at the Bass

Performing Arts Fort Worth presents Hamilton, July 15-26 at Fort Worth’s Bass Performance Hall as part of Broadway at the Bass series presented by PNC Bank. This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda chronicles the tale of our founding father Alexander Hamilton through a fusion of musical genres from hip hop to R & B.

AUSTIN

Zach Theater

The Zach Theater presents Suzan-Lori Parks’s new play-within-a-play, Sally & Tom, which is about the complicated relationship between Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, July 22-Aug. 23 at The Kleberg. The New York Times described Sally & Tom as a “hilarious and harrowing nesting doll of a play.”

SAN ANTONIO & AUSTIN

&Juliet

 &Juliet makes two stops in Texas this summer, July 7-July 12 at Majestic Theater as part of Broadway in San Antonio, and July 14-19 at Bass Concert Hall as part of Broadway in Austin. Imagine Romeo and Juliet with a new ending and a fresh beginning.
