Houston knows Rick Lowe well. The mastermind behind Project Row Houses, venues in Houston’s Third Ward that are at the forefront of social-practice art, is helping to change the definition of art in the 21st century. And now, thanks to his project in Houston and his dedication to social-practice art throughout the country, Lowe is one of the most recent recipients of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, or “Genius Grant.” Over the next few years Lowe will receive a stipend of $625,000 to continue both his art and social practice.
